Joseph Kertész born in Hungary in 1932
received a package of colored pencils as a child which started his life long desire to be a full time artist. He was constantly drawing or painting as he studied or worked. He was a self taught artist when he left behind his engineering career in 1969.
Joseph completed his mechanical engineering degree at the University of Budapest and became a teacher at the Hungarian Institute of Technology.
In 1956 he left Hungary and emigrated to Canada where he met his Swiss born wife Olga and had time for a few art lessons from noted Hungarian Artist
Sarlina Joszef. Olga & Joseph emigrated to America and settled in Burlingame, CA In 1969 they started the Kertesz Fine Art Gallery on Sutter Street in San Francisco where they featured many artists along with Joseph’s Paintings. He painted California scenes and travelled back and forth to Hungary painting his favorite places and returning home with his latest art work for his San Francisco Gallery. The Gallery run by his family allowed him to achieve his dream and provide wonderful paintings for his avid clients until his death in 2013.
